The identity of the person Leonardo DiCaprio was conversing with during the widely circulated clip from the 2026 Golden Globes may remain an enigma. Teyana Taylor, who initially asserted that her co-star from "One Battle After Another" was addressing her in this viral video, has since backtracked on that claim.
In a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show," Taylor shared her thoughts, revealing that she felt as though she had uncovered a major secret when she told Access Hollywood that DiCaprio was discussing "KPop Demon Hunters" with her. She had initially interpreted the moment in the clip—where DiCaprio is seen laughing and animatedly gesturing while talking to someone at his table—as a private exchange between the two of them.
During the show, Taylor expressed her excitement about winning her first Golden Globe on Sunday, especially since her film "Demon Hunters" won accolades for Best Animated Motion Picture and Best Original Song. However, she later admitted, "So when I first saw [the clip], I didn’t watch the whole thing. I thought he was talking about KPop Demon Hunters, so I assumed he was talking to me." Upon watching it more closely and observing lip-reading attempts, she realized she needed to reach out to DiCaprio to clarify the misunderstanding.
Taylor recounted, "I called Leo and asked him, 'You can’t be talking to me, were you?' Because I had already told everyone that he was. It turns out he had two conversations about KPop Demon Hunters that night, which explained why it seemed like it was such a popular topic for him."
She humorously questioned DiCaprio about who else might have been receiving his animated gestures during their conversation, leading to playful jealousy as she wondered, "Who else are you having fun with like that?" DiCaprio's response was nonchalant; he replied that he couldn't even remember whom he had been speaking to.
Earlier this week, Taylor had told Access Hollywood that the discussion revolved around her daughters, Iman Shumpert and Rue Rose Shumpert, and their love for "Demon Hunters." She confessed that she was unaware that the entire exchange was being filmed and broadcasted.
DiCaprio is often noted for his low-key public presence and desire for privacy, so much so that host Nikki Glaser humorously pointed out during her opening remarks at the Golden Globes that aside from his well-known preference for younger partners, not much else is publicly known about him.
Although DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes, he did not take home the award. In contrast, "One Battle After Another" secured the title of Best Picture—Musical or Comedy, and its director, Paul Thomas Anderson, won for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
It’s worth noting that the Golden Globes are produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is part of a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge, both of which also own The Hollywood Reporter.
