Nicomede Talavera, a British Filipino designer, is making waves once again in the fashion world with his new collection titled "Sacred Journey." Now based between London and Shanghai, Talavera aims to encapsulate his personal evolution over the past three years—both spiritually and professionally—in this coed line.
"Creating in my truth and with intention is what this collection is all about," he explained. This Central Saint Martins alumnus first made a splash in the London fashion scene over ten years ago, presenting a unique perspective on men’s silhouettes influenced by his multicultural background.
After navigating through various challenges, Talavera remains committed to his vision rooted in minimalism and cultural diversity. He describes the fall 2026 collection as a "natural progression" that reflects his lifestyle straddling two continents, his renewed connection with the creative community in the Philippines, and the valuable business insights he has garnered through multiple consultancy roles.
The Philippines holds significant emotional and cultural significance for him, especially regarding his debut in womenswear. He noted that Vogue Philippines has been a crucial ally—something he lacked during his upbringing in the UK.
Meanwhile, Shanghai has developed into a groundbreaking hub for manufacturing innovation. This environment has empowered him to explore deeper into knitwear and produce hardware for accessories like belts while maintaining a competitive edge on pricing.
For the fall 2026 collection, Talavera drew inspiration from the still-life artwork of Filipino modernist Arturo Luz, specifically his "Boxes and Shells" series. He creatively repurposed shells into stunning mother-of-pearl and cowrie shell embroideries, which beautifully complemented his signature design elements, including unique hook and eye fastenings, deconstructed collars, twisted plackets, angular lapel tailoring, and sock-like collars.
The women’s collection emerged from his fascination with form and the remarkable women in his life. It includes crinkled sheer tops, shorts, and skirts adorned with pinch details, an oversized top featuring iridescent hand-sewn pin tuck embroideries, alongside a variety of dresses paired with striking headpieces characterized by bold geometric shapes.
